ALICIA HILL - TATYANA Alicia has completed her Masters at the Royal College of Music last year where she performed the role of Anne Truelove in Stravinsky’s ‘The Rake’s Progress’ and Rosalinde in ‘Die Fledermaus’ for the Royal College of Music’s opera scenes. Alicia graduated from the University of Nottingham with a first class degree in Music and Philosophy and is committed to bringing classical music and opera to a wider audience, having run several community choirs and a free summer school for children. Last year, Alicia made her debut as Mimi in July in City of Manchester Opera’s production of La Boheme. She recently performed with Preston Opera in their semi-staged concert of Die Fledermaus where she played Rosalinde. KANCHANA JAISHANKAR - OLGA Originally from New Delhi, Kanchana’s journey as an Opera singer has been short and began when she was discovered and brought to England by eminent vocal pedagogue Dr. Robert Alderson. After 6 months of preparation with Dr. Alderson (all during lockdown!) she was accepted onto the Masters course at the Royal Northern College of Music. She is currently completing her Masters under the guidance of Welsh Contralto Hilary Summers. Recent engagements include work for Cherry town, Welsh National Opera Young Company (covering Debreynyetsov), Carmen (Mercedes) at the RNCM Opera Gala with Opera North, Madama Butterly (Suzuki) North Wales Opera Studio and Elena e Gerado (covering Gerardo) with Random Opera Company and the ITV Christmas Special with Ester Abrami! Prior to pursuing a career in singing, Kanchana obtained her bachelors in History and Sociology and worked as a fashion model in India. Kanchanas work as a model is extensive and has work featured in Elle UK and India, Vogue India, Bazaar India and Bazaar Turkey. CHARLIE BARKER - EUGENE ONEGIN Charlie Barker is a classically trained Baritone studying at the Royal Northern College of Music. He has a passion for both Choral and Solo repertoire, and his musical talent was recognised from a very early age, having been a music scholar at school on both voice and violin. Charlie is currently focusing on his solo vocal performance; he is in his third year of the Vocal and Opera Studies undergraduate degree, under the tutelage of Michael Harper. He has sung in the RNCM production chorus for both Le Nozze De Figaro by Mozart and Die Fledermaus by Johannes Strauss, and has performed in scenes of Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss. He has been in masterclasses throughout his life, one of which was taken by the renowned singer Roderick Williams. He won the Mid-Somerset festival's junior opera competition, singing Onegin’s Aria. He has also obtained an ATCL diploma and passed with distinction. After his studies, Charlie plans to travel before pursuing a career as an opera and recital singer. AIDAN MCCUSKER - MONSIEUR TRIQUET Aidan McCusker is from Paisley, Scotland and is currently in his 3rd year of the BMus Vocal Studies course at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) studying under the tutelage of Paul Nilon. Recent operatic engagements include chorus in RNCM’s production of Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Dorset Opera’s production of Pucinni’s Manon Lescaut and Mozart’s Magic Flute and in the chorus of the Halle’s semi-staged production of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. JOHN BRICE - PRINCE GREMIN John started singing in a church choir at the age of five and is still singing. Most recently he has sung principal baritone roles with Lakeland Opera and Preston Opera and, in a former life as a tenor, played most of the Gilbert and Sullivan roles with the Barrow Savoyards and societies in Nottingham. His last role for Preston Opera was Banquo in Macbeth(2019), having previously sung principal baritone roles in La Traviata, Pagliacci, The Magic Flute and Nabucco. He used to be a member of the London Symphony Chorus and Chelsea Opera Chorus and more recently sang with Dorset Opera Festival Chorus. He has performed with many of the area’s brass bands. He was a founder member of local opera group Encore. |
JAY BROADHURST - LENSKY Currently in his third year at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester-born tenor Jay is delighted to be making his opera debut as Lensky with Preston Opera. Studying under Matthew Best, Jay has performed a number of small roles and chorus including: Fracasso (La finta semplice), Che (Evita), Preacher (Bernstein’s Mass), Le nozze di Figaro & Die Fledermaus. Jay’s future engagements include: Ferrando (Così fan tutte), RNCM Opera Gala, La roi de Lahore (Dorset Opera) & Le nozze di Figaro (Dorset Opera). Jay has also sang tenor solo in Handel’s Messiah and Mozart’s Requiem. Jay would like to thank Director Paul Charles Clarke and Conductor Helen Harrison for their hard work, support and valuable advice through the process. IMOGEN GARNER - NANYA Mezzo-soprano Imogen Garner studied Economics at Sheffield University, then following a year’s teacher training changed career and studied at the RNCM. Chester-based, Imogen has covered several roles with English National Opera and has enjoyed a long association with the Buxton Festival, where she has covered roles and has sung as a soloist in concerts and live broadcasts on BBC Radio 4. Imogen has also performed with Scottish Opera, Birmingham Opera, Heritage Opera and Swansea City Opera. Her roles include Carmen, Orlofsky, Marcellina, Florence Pike, Dorabella, Orfeo, Mrs Grose, Third Lady and Berta. Imogen enjoys giving song recitals at venues throughout the North West with her accompanist John Gough and is a regular oratorio soloist with choral societies. MARIE'LOUISE LANE - MADAME LARINA Marie'Louise has sung with many of the Preston Opera since she was 14 and after graduating from the Vocal and Opera School at the RNCM, returned home to both work, teach and sing. She has taken on leading roles, ranging from the drama of Verdi and Bellini to the more light-hearted roles of Strauss, Offenbach and Mozart. Her favourite was the title role in Massenet's Manon. Marie'Louise has also sung in many of the Savoyard operettas and with numerous Choral Societies in the North West. team! SAM STRONGMAN - ZERETSKY Sam is currently studying at the RNCM. DAVID WOOTTON - CAPTAIN PETROVICH David first performed with Preston Opera in 2016 when he played the Spokesman and First Priest in the Magic Flute. David started his operatic journey in 2008 while living in London. He performed in nine operas with the Kentish Opera chorus and in addition had understudy roles. He also sang with Matchbox Opera Company in which he performed the roles of Alcindoro , La Boheme, Angelloti Tosca and Antonio The Marriage of Figaro. In 2010 he sang in Evita with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s touring company. . In 2012 he played an English Lord in an Italian film Bartolo Longo and sang on Sky TV Italy and Italy Mia TV. His previous roles in Preston Opera have included Kromov The Merry Widow. Eugene Onegin will be his sixth opera with the company. He studied with Andrew Field and James Anderson in London, in 2015 he returned to Lancashire and continues his musical studies with Jane Irwin. . |
