Joining Preston Opera

Preston Opera is always ready to welcome new members in any capacity – as singers, or to help with production, staging, costume, make up, props, front of house duties, even making the tea! If you are interested in joining us all you need to do is to turn up at one of our rehearsals and introduce yourself to either Geoff Horton, our chairman, or Barbara Walsh, our secretary.

We rehearse at Carey Baptist Centre, Pole Street, Preston PR1 1DX every Thursday from 7.30pm – 10.00.

Singers: We particularly welcome altos, tenors and basses, but sopranos, too, are welcome. We do not ask prospective singing members to audition. You do not need to be able to read music, or to have any experience of singing opera – we suggest that you come along and sing with us for a week or two and see how you feel. We are sure you will enjoy the experience.

Non-singing members – come along and have a chat with us at a rehearsal and tell us about your areas of interest and expertise.

We try to keep costs down for all our members.

Our annual subscriptions are:

Full membership: £84, which can be paid monthly by standing order (£7 per month).

Students: £25

Non-singing members: £14

Additional costs:

Contribution towards costume hire for staged performances (once or twice a year) - £20

Returnable deposit on music scores - £20.

However, no one is ever disbarred from membership on financial grounds, so if the subscription proves difficult for you please talk to our chairman.
